I’ve used professional carpet cleaning services in the past, and let me tell you, they sure do charge a pretty penny. I don’t think I’ve ever paid less than $300 to have my carpets cleaned. But here’s the part that gets my blood boiling – A lot of times these “pros” don’t even do a good job! This got me thinking that maybe I could try to clean the carpets myself. I knew I should be able to do just as good a job, and I would save $300 to boot.
At my local Albertson’s I always see these machines called the Rug Doctor, so I figured I’d give them a try. The good news is that the machine is pretty simple to use. You basically just turn it on, then drag it across the carpet to clean it. The 64 million dollar question is, or course, does it work?
The answer is yes and no. For a machine that you can rent for 30 bucks for a 24 hour period, it does do a decent job. But it’s probably not up to the standards of the better professional cleaners. So my two cents is, if you have a professional cleaning service you already like, you might want to stick with them. But if your cleaning service does not do a good job, and you don’t feel like going through the hassle of finding a decent service, then you can just do it yourself with these Rug Doctor machines.
You can rent them like I did, or if you’re sure you’ll be using them a lot, you can even buy your own machine. There are Rug doctor coupons online that you can use to save some money, so I would try to use a couple of them if you are going that route. As for getting other information about coupons, I would recommend paying a visit to about.com and couponanything.com.
When I was younger, I remember there was a cool store at many malls called Sharper Image. They carried all sorts of nifty gadgets. Now these products were of course not things that people absolutely need, but once you say them, boy did it make you want to buy them!
